Apartment Located In The Heart Of Barcelona Opens Up To The Frenetic Atmosphere Of The City
This apartment located in Plaça Catalunya, Barcelona, benefits from a privileged position on the fourth-floor of a small block of flats. Large balconies open up to the frenetic atmosphere of the city. The apartment has been renovated by the architects from Nook Architects.
The client wanted a spacious home where to spend his occasional stays in the city and to share meals and dinners with his guests.
An important area of the house from the beginning was the kitchen that functions as a meeting point - very similar to a gastro bar more than a family kitchen. This space has been completed by a wine cellar with more than 600 bottles.
"With these starting premises, we decided to use the total housing cradle in the front for the living room and to link it with the rest of the space. Originally separated by a large load wall, it has been opened by two large holes to favor the relationship between the two spaces." the architects explained.
Located near the entrance and overturned to the most intimate courtyard, there is the master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. The bathtub and the sink are elements that merge with the room and the closet-dressing works as a separation between the bedroom and hallway.
Another important input was the large number of windows for a project with a fairly brief functional program. The house has 10 openings, shared between the windows and the balconies, to enhance the original holes and to allow multiplying their perception through the use of mirrors. They are considered symbols of an architecture from the beginning of the last century and has been one of the outstanding project lines.
With the intervention, focused on the recovery of materials and the choice of contemporary and warm finishes, it has been possible to offer this house a more honest spirit with the constructive system of the building and to align it to the current comfort and lifestyle.
